#1 is truly f@#ked up. How can the surgeons and the nurses assisting stomach the cries coming from a child in horrific , unbearable pain. It makes me feel sick to my stomach thinking about it.

It was either that or have a very likely chance of killing the baby or giving it brain damage due to anesthesia being too difficult to safely administer to them when they are so young.
Even now, as in this very day, sedating a child younger than 3 even a single time will likely have a degree of impact on their cognitive development. It is something that they try to avoid at all costs.
