You are correct, it was likely added to the lingua franca that modern English is after the Norman conquest in the 11th century. That brings us back to the original observation that the word fag was in use long before Americans decided to use it as a derogatory term

Dorothy, Let's be fair now, shall we? That derogatory term is widely used in the U.K. as well. Along with the other terms, "Puff", "Poof", "Dandy", ect. You're quick to paint American's as being at fault for a myriad of negative things on here whilst blatantly ignoring your own actions mirroring the same. I've no idea why you're so anti-American, and frankly, it's your right to your own opinions. This is a fun site with fun people, and for the most part I stay out of the ignorant B.S. back and forth between idiots. But don't toss out B.S. and hypocritical statements and not expect to be called out on it.

Lias, Shame about the homophobia, the bigotry, the xenophobia and the general gullability and stupidity of the average British person. The sex is okay though. We get plenty - read an article in the local Bolton news the other day talking about the terrible amount of 'dogging' in and around Bolton. Basically it was a well written guide to staying safe while dogging in Bolton!
