This guy is an immature and petty @$$hole. If he was that concerned he would have kept his precious guitar locked up.

I agree with #14. Babysitter should not have left the child alone since that's specifically what they were hired for. What if the kid did end up falling down the stairs or running outside somehow and getting hit by a car or something. Would that not be the babysitter's fault?

But still, the guy is going too far asking for the whole guitar to be replaced. That's some petty stuff right there. Just be happy your kid is okay, don't pay the babysitter for that 3 hours and go on with your life. Should have had your expensive things in a place your kid can't get to anyways.

as devils' advocate
no reason conversation couldn't have been private while still having child in visual range

Squat,
Nah...you put important and valuable things away when you have animals and small children. He's not a victim. The babysitter is the victim because he's trying to get a teenager to pay him over 2 grand for his own negligence.

A dad on Reddit is asking if he is in the wrong for demanding his babysitter pay for a valuable guitar his child broke on her watch

The parents hired a babysitter for 3 hours because the dad was at work and the mom had to rush to her work for an emergency. This babysitter was already familiar with the child and the house rules, which were that the 3-year-old was only allowed in the living room, play room, and dining room (when eating). So it wasn’t the first time she had worked for the parents, but something still went wrong.

The dad explains that the babysitter had to take a call which lasted for 20 minutes and all that time, she was outside. Her reasoning was that she didn’t want the child to hear the conversation, as it was private.
