#5 In 1980, I was offered a promotion in my company that, I was told, would make my salary go from $24K to $30K per year. My first full paycheck on the new salary was for $35K per year. I kept my mouth shut. After the VP that promoted me was let go, he was over to the house visiting and I brought it up. Nothing to go wrong at this point. He said that he knew my salary would be somewhere between $30K and $35K, but he wasn't sure where the upper management would put it. But, what he was sure of was, if I was happy at $30K, I would be happy no matter where it landed. They just felt I was worth the highest level. Happy me!!!
