#3 Birds have cloacas, not sphincters. They are not physically able to hold in their poop, and it just comes out when it's ready. They cannot time it or aim it.

Jedediah,

You have never lived on a boat with wild birds overhead in masse, because some birds can definately choose WHEN they go. For survival they can release before flight, to gross out a predator, or mark territory/flight path. Or they can hold it near their nests to avoid attracting attention. No animal as evolved as a bird would leave pooping up to pure chance.

Jedediah, I can't prove aim -- I say "prove" -- but they can certainly hold it. Training parrots to do this is key to successfully keeping them as pets. It is perfectly straightforward; it is done with rewards, and it is sometimes very quick indeed, sometimes slower. This guy https://www.aviatorharness.com/blog-feed/potty-training-your-bird-72-hours is just down the road from us and we have two birds that were hatched in his aviary.

"The most dangerous/feared animal in case of an escape is not, as you may think, lions, tigers or other large carnivores. It’s the chimps. Those things will rip your arm off and beat you to death with the bloody end as soon as look at you."
