My wife and my mother were great friends. My wife's mother died young and I never got to know her.
After my wife passed away, I remarried. My new wife's mother was a shrew. I understood why my new wife's first marriage didn't last.
Fortunately we were middle aged and her mother passed on before she could ruin our marriage too..

Why would you let this happen in the first place? Family matters can be tough and annoying, but having a third party meddling in your privacy is not acceptable. Period.
