This is a list of old wives tales and dumb and dumber survival tactics people think when they watch too much media. Only a handful have any actual advice. (Ex. Electricity can't tell if your legs are open or closed, and if you meet a polar bear running will never be an option.)

Renius, "Electricity can't tell if your legs are open or closed" - You now have zero credibility in anything you say.

Many of these seems like bad advise… It would be great with some sources to the steps we are suppose to take to save our life in a dangerous situation

#1 If a service dog approaches you without it's owner, you should follow it because the person will be incapacitated and it'd be very easy to take their purse/wallet.

Asa, I don't care how many down votes your post receives, it's brilliant.

Sam, it's astonishing how many are unable to discern when someone is making a joke. It's pathetic how so often they immediately perceive offense and retaliate with the downvote icon.

Sula, or maybe they just don’t find that brand of humor funny. That’s a possibility. I mean you seem pretty offended at the idea of people being offended by something you like so I guess it works both ways.

#11 is also true about women. Stay far away from the brightly colored ones.

And ladies, don't say "the colors ward off predators like you, blah, blah" because predators are the ones who go for that kind of girl since they know they're damaged and can easily be taken advantage of. Everyone who downvotes this knows I'm right.

#3 - This is a fraud that started around 2010. Calling #77 or 112 from your cell phone will not connect you to emergency services no matter where you are. Passing this along is hazardous. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/call-112-police-emergency/

112 is part of the GSM standard and will connect you to emergency service in most places, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/112_(emergency_telephone_number).

#23 is wishful thinking. Disconnecting a brake light will have the car computer notifying the driver.

Gretchen,
Depends on the car. Most cars on the road are not that new. And it's always better to do something than nothing.

#9 - I love when people say "simply", like "simply dig upwards 10-15 feet (3-5m) without a shovel or air."

#11- Square waves are caused by intersecting winds from two directions. They're hazardous to boats because they roll them in unexpected directions but don't affect swimmers much or have anything to do with currents. They're a surface phenomenon.

#17 is just full of poop. e.g. If a line goes down near you and you're not already shocked or dead, walk away from the line. Take this from a lineman.

#23 - if you can see to get to the brake wiring, which is usually not accessible from the inside of the trunk, you can see to pull the yellow handle and open the lid.

Cordelia,

I don't think the standard to being buried in an avalanche is that deep. But that's besides the point.
It is more a tip on how not to dig down or sideways when you are disorientated and everything looks the same. I doubt they actually meant that it's just a cakewalk once you know which way is up.

Estelle, there has only been one time when an elevator went into a freefall and it was from about 40 stories up. The person lived, due to a cushion of compressed air under the elevator car.
