The story I recall about this picture is that it was made for a Canadian neighbor who had moved to the US and won a bet with his patriotic US neighbor so the US neighbor baked him a cake.

Like all of these location-specific posts, it shows just one of the many genres that exist across the US. It’s a popular stereotype, but like all stereotypes, it shows just a fraction of the big picture. It is like this in specific areas, but definitely not everywhere. This is like a caricature of the South and Midwest.
