Nettie, Yes, it is magnetic. Helped my son with a science project years ago concerning the magnetic properties of cereal with claims of having iron added as a daily supplement. Crunched up the cereal and used a rare earth magnet to see how much cereal could be picked up by the magnet. Don't remember the exact outcome, but it seemed like the cheaper the cereal, the more cereal was picked up by the magnet. Try it, it was fun. I thought it was BS till i saw it for myself.
A: Perhaps it is for silverware. The slots on the side for your fingers to easily grab them out. A foot seems kinda long though so i’m unsure. Very unlikely thought is perhaps a rice paper holder?
