#6 stains less. The clue is in the name. Not stainfree. All stainless steel can get rust spots.

Wendy, if you see rust on stainless steel then the manufacturer has lied about the type of steel. Stainless steel doesn’t rust because it contains > 10% chromium which prevents it from rusting. I found this out the hard way when I ordered a sink fixture that was manufactured in China and it began rusting in a few months though they advertised it as stainless steel.

Elaine,Stainless steel can rust depending on the grade of stainless ( many 400 grades will rust),. and what it's exposed to.

Elaine,

All stainless steel will rust if you scratch through it's oxide skin.

Adam,

But only if it gets contaminated with iron. Scratching it with a non ferro material is no problem.

Wendy,
Stainless Steel can also rust if it is processed with grinding belts or wheels that are contaminated with carbon steel. Our vendors process Stainless Steel products in a seperate facility to prevent cross contamination. I work in the marine industry where rust is sort of a problem.
