Bob’s father, Byron Barker, was ¼ Lakota. In the 1885-1940 census, Bob Barker is listed as a member of the Sioux tribe.

Barker served in the Navy from 1942-1945. He was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade before leaving the service.

He’s not afraid of dying.

“When’s it my time, I’m ready to die,” Barker said.

Barker attended Drury College on a basketball scholarship. He also played during his time in the Navy.

Bob worked part-time at a radio station during college. He moved to California in order to pursue a career in broadcasting after World War II.

Barker has earned 19 Emmys for his work on The Price is Right. He hosted the show from 1972-2007.

Though he left as the host in 2007, Barker made an appearance on The Price is Right in 2013 for his 90th birthday.

Bob Barker received karate training from Chuck Norris himself. He’s a black belt in karate and a red belt in Tang Soo Do karate.

He also did his own stunts in Happy Gilmore.

Bob Barker made an appearance as himself on the hit show How I Met Your Mother in 2007.

Before The Price is Right, Barker spent 18 years on the show Truth or Consequences. This earned him a Guinness World Record for TV’s “Most Durable Performer” thanks to his 3,524 performances in a row.

He’s a huge animal activist. In fact, Barker donated $1 million to Drury College that helped create their Forum on Animal Rights.

Bob has also donated $5 million to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. This is an anti-whaling organization. They were so grateful for the contribution that the named a ship after him.

Barker hosted the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants from 1966 to 1988. He stopped when the pageant organizers refused to get rid of real fur coats as prizes.

After the 5,000th episode of The Price is Right in 1998, CBS renamed “Stage 33” to “Bob Barker Studio.”

Bob Barker had a minor stroke in 1991, a stroke in 2002, prostate surgery in 2002, suffered from skin cancer, and had a fall both in 2015 and 2017.

He’s currently 97 and doing well! We’re glad to still have this legend around. Cheers to you, Bob!
