Sometimes a redesign of the packaging also comes with a decrease of content.

#5 There's actually a reason why a lot of packaging is so hard to open even with scissors. It prevents someone in the store tearing it open easily and slipping the, usually smaller, item in a pocket.
The same goes for those stickers that tear in bits or leave residue. It prevents people from putting a cheaper price sticker or the barcode of a cheap item on a more expensive one.
