This applies to everything, not just hospital bills. It's called inflation...

Dosie,
Except it has risen far faster than general inflation. In general $1 in 1960 equals $8.88 now, but $1 in medical expenses in 1960 is equal to $24.16 now. Paying 3 times as much for medical care as most everything else. (Source: quick calculation using data from microtrends)

Funny how these old medical bills were from a country without government controlled medicine and weren't outrageous in price. Its almost as if some other pressure, some other economic process is driving these prices up, other than "a lack of the government being in control"

Like: lawsuits, other nations underpaying on goods and services, inflation, etc.

Bills for going to the hospital? Bills for hospotal stays? Bills for x-rays? Bills for giving birth? Just pay some taxes and it will be free for all, just like here in Denmark :-)
No, its not communism! Dont be afraid of that old ghost.

Norway here... it is all free! - Yes we pay a lot of taxes-but hospitals are free.
Emergency care is free, therapy is free, wheelchairs and all other needed aides are free, home care is free.
So is medication and doctors visits.
WEELL - we pay up to max 3000.- NOK (about 320 US) privately for personal doctors or perscribed medication. - Everything over that ammount is covered.
BUT the F*n dentists will bleed u dry!!! (no cover there)

Sorry... i forgot to mention - this is for a calender year. So max for one year 3000 NOK
