In USSR large printed movie posters for theaters was just not a thing. A fair deal of those I remember from childhood were of considerably better quality than any of the pictured here.

It seems that entrepreneurs had little trouble getting hold of recent foreign film releases and importing them into their own country, but finding the movie posters to advertise the film proved near to impossible. So they were 'recreated' by hand, and sometimes the results are quite amazing.
