Midge, it used to be that way in the US but about 25 years ago retailers started to change their operation model to the nonsense we see today. The new model “can” be good but it’s severely abused. It always amazes me how retailers accept any kind of return - used, half used, broken - whatever, they allow people to return it.
#4 It's common in Germany, that if you open the sealed package, that you have to buy it. If you disagree, they will call the police for an attempted theft.
