#12 Leged in Hungary has it, that Tivadar Puskás used "Hallom!" what means "I can hear you!" in Hungarian. And it was acknowledged by Edison and became "Hello".

The Dutch legend has it that it was "Hoi!".

Northern say it is derived from "Heill!".

The Edison had it on paper. But it is hard to say which came first because none of us where there ;)

#50 I think this is a mistake. There were only two Yamato-class battleships built (the Yamato and the Musashi). Both were sunk during the war. So, it's unlikely that a chunk of either ship could be on display anywhere.

Orilla, There was a third one, the Shinano, but it was finished as a carrier, leaving behind turret face plates. In 1947, the US Navy conducted an analysis of the steel, and then shot at them with their own battleship.

Orilla,This 26" thick section of armor plate of the Yamato class battleships was found at the Kure Naval Base in Japan after the end of WWII and brought back to the US for testing. The damage is the result of a 16" US armor piercing naval shell during ballistic testing at the Naval Proving Ground in Dahlgreen, VA. Bleeding through the paint are the words "JAPANESE PORT PLATE" I assume this is a portside plate but that doesn't narrow it down much. Maybe it meant that when found it was being used as armor protection at the Kure port itself.

Clum and Court, I had heard of the Shinano, but knew nothing of the Navy's post-war testing. Thanks to you both for the information.
