Marion, nonsense. The war would have gone on and on and many more people would have died. It’s easy to sit on your sofa and second guess the strategy of the people actually involved - that’s what cowards do. If you, or your son, was sent over there to fight you’d be glad they ended it quickly.

Let's not forget that the US largely helped support and develop post WWII Japan into the hugely successful commercial nation that it is today. Just as we are somehow also giving the Taliban yet more money. Read the book Hiroshima it is a quick read, but quite horrifying. Let's not forget the Bataan Death March or the fact that so many Japanese were willing to die as long as they struck a blow for the Emperor.
