Uhm... Because nuclear energy *is* green and sustainable.
The fact that Germany of all countries panicked and chose to phase out nuclear energy as a ill informed knee-j#rk reaction to Fukushima still boggles my mind.

Janice, ever heard of Chernobyl? Harrisburg? Sellafield? Three miles island? Not even mentioning the still unsolved problems with radioactive waste.

Danny,
Chernobyl - 1986
Harrisburg - 1979 (Technically this was the Three mile island)
Sellafield - 1957
... And a plethora of others nuclear accidents. Combined death toll: 300 - 400 +/- (this includes mining for nuclear fuel).
For comparison the Chinese hydroelectric dam failure in 1975 killed about 150.000 people.

Co2 emission from nuclear power is equal or lower than both wind/solar power, takes up a fraction of the space and generates power regardless of weather.

All the nuclear waste produced by the us since the 50's - 60's can fit in a football field, that's about the same amount of waste a coal plant produces in a day.

Danny, If you think Chernobyl was an accident of nuclear technology, you really, really need to think again.

Louie,
Exactly. Nuclear isn't safer today because the process has vastly improved. We've developed systems that do more to remove human error and stupidity. Nuclear is absolutely green. Low if any emissions and much more efficient. The ammount of energy generated compared to the ammount of fuel and size of waste is laughable when compared to conventional power.
