In summary, wages are so low that I can’t afford to live, so I’m going to quit and do the things I enjoy. But rent is still due, electrical bill is still due, auto insurance is still due, groceries are still needed - none of that goes away. Unemployment Compensation benefits have been exhausted. So how are these people going to “show employers they have had enough?” They are going to move back in with mom and dad until all of this is sorted out. It’s interesting that the recent migrants aren’t blaming the 1% - they are out busting their butts working hard. NO. The problem is this generation wants to point the finger at someone else because it’s easier that way. They fabricate this false narrative that the Boomers didn’t bust their butts for what they have. BS! As a Boomer I’ve worked since I was 18 doing many jobs I didn’t like - not once did the government help me. Each job is a stepping stone - you work, you improve yourself, you advance… and you repeat that 40 times. Stop whining and do it. No one owes you anything.

Peggy,

I would say he means how the system backfired on itself. Basically Slave Workers not coming back to work.
The most perverted thing is that young people have to get a College degree (=Student loan depts) in order to get a job that doesnt support even basic life necessities. It is horrible, and only now it became a thing of discussion because the engine doesnt work anymore like it did before.

Onicyphorous, If your degree is in Gender Studies or some nonsense, then no it won't support even basic life necessities. If you have a STEM degree, you'll be fine.

No need to be insulting. Peggy's ideas are either right or wrong and can be argued with reason. But insults are always wrong.

Win,

"Ok Boomer" is the proper response to such nonsense. People are tired of listening to boomers trot out false BS. Peggy clearly hasn't put the slightest bit of effort into seeing if what they are saying is true. Why bother putting energy into people like that?

Peggy,
It's true, I'm a boomer too.

But I also know collage costs four times as much as in my day even accounting for inflation, that minimum wage hasn't kept up with inflation, that my secondary school was paid for by the public, that medical insurance has deteriorated. I don't pretend I didn't have an easier time of it than today's new employees. I understand you have trouble with numbers, but pointing those numbers out isn't whining. We're part of the first generation that has made the US worse for the next. Own it.

Peggy,
Remember, thanks to Boomers, for the first time the 1% now has more resources than the ENTIRE middle class. But Peggy doesn't want any shade thrown their way! Boomers did this. They decided that massive amounts of money should be taken away from the middle class and given to the rich. It's taken 40 years, but by God they've done it. And now boomers whine that the next generation thinks this was a bad idea.

Franklin, since when does everyone need to go to a University? My nephew is a pipe fitter - no schooling, six figure income. If you can’t afford University there are other options. My son is in University - hard work in high school - everything is paid for. Medical insurance - Democrats have had several opportunities to fix that - it isn’t a Boomer issue - they are spending TRILLIONS of $ but medical insurance isn’t even considered. I have no issues with numbers - give me some and we will discuss. Bezos isn’t a Boomer. Musk isn’t a Boomer. Gates is - he was a leader in computer development and earned it. There’s nothing for me to own - Boomers revolutionized the world with tons of high tech - I’ll own that in my 401k LOL.

Franklin,

Incorrect, ok boomer is not a proper response. It is meant to denigrate the one whom it is addressed to. Thus it is insult and if used often enough, a slur. People may be tired of BS but that is a separate issue and so is its response. Why bother putting energy into it? Because it is wrong to treat people that way.

There is no great resignation, no data supports this finding. We have a labor shortage and people are changing jobs, especially lower paid jobs, at a significantly higher rate. People are still working, working at record numbers, they just have more choice about where they work and if they don't like one place they move to the next.

"There is no great resignation"
I'm unclear on how these two statements go together. No one said all those people are sitting idle.

Whatever happens, this much is true - you will make your own future, and there's nothing you can do to make that someone else's responsibility. Act accordingly.

wages, wages blah blah blah. this isn't what it's about. big employers are exercising more power than ever and we finally are saying no. too many requirements of overworking, hop on one foot, vax mandates etc. And a new class is coming in undercutting citizens and old immigration alike. there is less choice and promotion by merit. it's all you follow my rules and be born correctly so we pay for you.
