you are failing to understand that the salary is not based on how important/cool your work is. It's based on the amount of jobs available and the amount of people willing to do that work.
If everybody applies to be a Garbage Collector, the salary will go down to minimum wage. On the other hand, if nobody applies for the Garbage Collector job, then the salary will go up significantly.
Wrong. They’re unionized. So their salaries are artificially inflated. You can tell me there wouldn’t be a line around the block to get paid $130k a year for working 40 hours a week.
Teamster union contract. $40 an hour in January + medical and pension paid 100% by my employer. There’s guaranteed overtime too, so gross around $130k + the other perks. We also get a 100k severance payout the day we retire.
They don't say what the overtime rate is but we can guess 2x normal rate.
Engineer in a large EU based company. EUR 48 = $54 / hr Taxes and mandatory insurance (health, unemployment, pension fund) are at about 35% altogether. Work is 35h per week. Paid overtime, 6 weeks of paid vacation, paid sick-leave.
South Africa here, left school at 16 and now I do programming and networking and make US $ 51 p/h and work my own hours, other than emergencies, but then I make $120 p/h so don't mind getting woken up for that.
"Wendy’s Crew Member, $9 normal hours, $10 when I close. If I become an ambassador I could make $12 an hour but that’s a lot of work. I work the grill usually and they say I’m the best at it not including the managers and one of the ambassadors."

Yes it’s important, but not $130k per year important.
Yeah it’s important, but not $130k a year important.
