Nervie,

People have an inherent fear of the unknown, like being afraid of the dark. It's a physiological and evolutionary trait that's useful for survival in a species. Sure, there are no ghosts or ghoulies down those halls, but what about a murderer or rapist around the corner? Risk vs. reward. Fight or flight.

Fear the living not the dead, the animal instinct is still within us, the ones that survived are the ones that passed the genes to the next generation, that's how we know danger even when we are babies
