Linoleum or it's like is still available today. Plenty of boomers covered hardwood floors up for some reason, with both linoleum and carpet. Having restored a number of old houses, I've seen this lots of times. The generation prior to boomers tended toward using rugs on top of hardwood, not permanent coverings.
