It's for both. Also good for squeezing citrus, cracking eggshells, and breaking bones. Not everything has ONE purpose.

#3 Its a nutcracker with a couple of nutpicks to get the meat out of the nuts. Its not a Lobster cracker. Although you can use it on the claws, it does a bad job. Might as well go with pliers. Not a good answer.

It's both, and good on crab... although with lots of crab/lobster consumed a person gets good enough not to need anything but teeth.

A bit surprised with some not knowing what a few of these are. But then, I'm old and some of this stuff isn't so common anymore.
