There are no trash cans in most of Japan's public places. Yet it's cleaner than pretty much anywhere else I've been. It's not the lack of cans, it's the lack of class.

Yeah... You can't expect trashcans on the middle of the beach.
But not having a trashcan around is not an excuse to litter.
It's not that hard to take your trash with you until you get to a trashcan or home.
Most people going camping and hiking manage not to leave a candy wrapper and tin can trail despite the fact that there aren't too many trashcans in the middle of a forest.
Yeah... You can't expect trashcans on the middle of the beach.
But not having a trashcan around is not an excuse to litter.
It's not that hard to take your trash with you until you get to a trashcan or home.
