#1 ...I give it seven years max. Maybe less. Because I'm guessing you did this almost exclusively so you could take that picture, and suddenly, when you realize you're still as immature as your partner, you're going to realize you can't stand each other after getting married, because you expected one of you to take care of the other. My grandparents stayed married for 56 years and died 11 days apart, but these days, most everyone I know has one divorce under their belt by the age of 30. The real sorrow is you young weaklings are not to blame for the social media system that turned you into adult children, but you're supporters of it, so imagine how your kids are going to turn out.

Hepsibah,

Your grandparents had no choice. If they got divorced, your grandmother had no one to earn money and your grandpa would've realised he couldn't cook or clean or wash his clothes. Society wouldn't support their decision to split up either, they would've been cast outs.
today you can stay with whoever you love and leave them, if there is no love left. You can find new love. You are no longer forced to stay with someone you don't like anymore.
It's an improvement.

Ray,

orrrr another way to look at it, is that maybe my grandparents loved each other? no choice? lol perhaps the fact divorce is so common these days is not the absence of implied 'exile' by society in the past leaving them 'no choice' to stay together for 56 years, along with your typical generalization of past marriage roles, but maybe it's how people are more vacuous and self centered in present day? Taking commitment, responsibility and especially relationships with other people as lightly as they do getting a new TV? We can agree to disagree, because I have a inkling of where you're coming from and...well...it's sounds purely contrarian and frankly like it's coming from someone who would say 'ok, boomer'. I don't mean that personally, but in your words, I see your justification to be all the things I said and that could be a finer point. I read something about there being less empathy in the world today, so perhaps it's not lack of love that wracks up so many divorces, but perhaps the lack of ability TO love anyone but yourself? It's rather cold to imply my grandparents had 'no choice'. That alone has closed me off from listening to anything else you have to say. I would have listened if you had used just one 'maybe' but you make it sound so black and white, you made me revise my outlook about adult children and find your point of view to be worse. Good luck to you, Ray! I really do mean that.

Deborah,

are you, like, following me around? lol and now that Lisa and Ray tossed their hat in the ring you see a quick and easy way to ingratiate yourself in a discussion that had nothing to do with you but you couldn't resist jumping in on? I was kinda sorta hoping to debate the point here with Ray a bit more if he wanted to make the effort, but here you are to get dem thumbs up! here, you can have mine XD like my other posts you undoubtedly are checking in your 'Debby is a victim' psychosis it's so easy to get you cooking...in fact.......I probably won't keep doing so, because after all this CONSTANT spitting rage and hate from you in every other comment, every other column, every other post, it's making me feel bad about myself, I can admit that. I was just kinda goading you, but now I feel like I'm being...well, mean. And you're a bit too invested in all this Deb, like, legit. 36

#2 It must be her great grandson... because at 90 she would have been at least 45 when her kid was born and her kid in mid 40's when grandcild was born... possible but as rare as baby being great, great, great, great grandchild (women were all 16 when birthing).
