Fight Club. The dark humor and the short and fast scenes that still make up a full length movie. An eye for detail in every shot. The dive from a 50 floor skyscraper into it's basement: a shot that lasts maybe 50 frames, but each frame is razorsharp. Very well directed. Although the movie doesn't exactly follow the book, the overall feel is about right. I felt about the same as the way the main character feels about society. The movie is a 10/10 for me, and the book is even better!
#8 I found this completely by accident a few years back and have watched it twice. It basically involves three "people" which means the dialogue writing has to work or the movie fails. And it works. Very well done and some twists along the way.

You need to take time for this one, appreciation will come eventually.
Of course there's a difference of opinion. I liked 2001 as well. It's a great movie. But I also wouldn't watch it again because it's sooo sloooow.
