I've seen videos of how these are made and they actually do work. It has something to do with the way the center log is placed over an opening in the ground below it. Too big and it burns to fast, too small and it burns out.

Regina, I’ve seen the YouTube videos also. Because the logs go up and out the flame does not create a bonfire. Most logs don’t burn very fast - not like, say, a pile of pallets
