I find that "fact" pretty questionable, not that I'm actually willing to put in any time to research it. (I'm sure someone else will take offense to me questioning it and leave a comment with the proof if it's true...(

Jeff, I just tried it and it didn’t work - I broke its legs and it seemed rather dysfunctional after that. I will try to find another grasshopper and get back to you.

Simply put- all locusts used to be grasshoppers, but not all grasshoppers will become locusts. They are not two separate species.

Who came up with these lies? #7 NO! Don't tear tiny grasshopper legs doing this! LOCUST are very specific breeds of grasshoppers that WHEN they occasionally breed in large numbers and have strong wings they are called locust (usually plural). NOT a single tortured grasshopper.
