It is their job to take a step forward when everybody else takes a step back.
If they didnt they would be fired for Neglect of Duty or Dereliction of Duty.
When they take 2 steps forward, only then are they going beyond their expected duties, and deserve our respect.
Police, Doctors, Nurses are all noble jobs, but just like every profession, half of them are sh1t.
The good ones I respect. The bad ones should stop playing up to social media and likes and jut their f@%$ing job! lol

My argument over the "spit second decisions" is that I also have to do that everyday, all day long, behind the wheel, contacting threatening and dangeous people on THEIR personal property, often being threatened... but I do it without ANY weapons, and provide a lifegiving service. So, a bad officer on a bad day can kill an innocent, and nothing happens but a brief internal "trial" and a slap on the wrist, back to the field. NO. Cops are paid to put their life in danger, I walk to it freely to make society better. I'm a courier/delivery driver.

Good officers are amazing. Real people who aren't there on a power-trip, who aren't scared and know how to respect rhe public they work for. They know they are dealing with citizens on the worst day of the citizens life so far and provide support and assistance rather than fear and dominence. Those are the officers who deserve respect, and they will get it as it is earned, not by the badge.
