It must be said, those countries are closer to the equator, hence they get more moonlight, hence the alimergators can grow feet. Rafaela, if that's her real name, posits that if the moon were any closer than 384k kilometres away, alimergators would be able, what with the increased moonlight garnered, to grow longer legs, and then we'd all be the f@#k in trouble.
