I remember working in an office in '99-'00, and complaining about how terrible Ask Jeeves was. My buddy told me about this new thing called "googol, but spelled wrong." In the beginning, it was soooo much better than it is now. There was no corporate influence, just a bunch of guys who wanted a better search engine. Greed eventually corrupts all things.
All of the great flash animation/game sites like newgrounds, weebl's stuff and homestar runner. These might all still exist, but were around to entertain us long before youtube.
“Being ‘offline.’ Now everyone is online all the time, but ‘going online’ was an actual limited-time thing you went and did, and then when you are done you got ‘offline.’ Now being online is a permanent state of being.”
