When Mozart died in 1791, many believed he had been poisoned by Antonio Salieri, a musician who had been his biggest rival. Mozart had told his wife weeks prior to his death, that he believed he had already been poisoned before.
When Salieri died in 1825, it was rumored that he confessed on his deathbed to killing Mozart.
In 2009, however, researchers in the Annals of Internal Medicine suggested that he actually died of strep throat.
