The fact that one can legally give their children these names in the US is just wild. Have people gotten insane? Here so much facepalming material that I now have a red forehead.

Lea, Yes, we need a list of acceptable names or at least an arbiter of what names are acceptable - a government panel perhaps - with a czar that has the final say. That would be a much better way of ensuring conformity (as opposed to common sense and society shaming).

Thaddeus,

It is not about any sort of control but more about simple common sense, regarding that your child has to live with that name. Thats it.

Thaddeus,

Like it's okay to name your child Adolf Hitler?

All of these ridiculously moronic spellings of normal sounding names are just going to be a massive frustration for these kids their whole lives.
Having to say: "My name is... no, it's actually spelled... no it's... yeah, with a..." every single time they introduce themselves will just be awful THEIR WHOLE LIVES.

#17 The mom doesn’t get to name the kids just because she’s the pregnant one.

Euphemia,

Every single time a child gets one of these stupid names, it's the woman's idea. I have no idea why the fathers let them do it, but no man would ever name their kid like that. Ever.

These people are a bunch of self-absorbed @$$holes. They don't think about anyone but themselves, especially not their kids. They just want their other @$$hole friends to say- Oh, what a neat name! You're so creative and special and unique!

I had to google it. The German name Gunner, or Gunnar in Scandinavia, means warrior, not the operator of a gun, its meaning in English.

#17, who do people always change the name of the person as if the 30 who read the story are going to actually know if you use the persons real name? If someone can read the story and recognize who the real person is a fake name is not going to throw them off.

Sister wanted daughter to be named Aria (song), but pronounces it as "area" (a space), and spelled it Aira (breath of life) on the birth certificate.

By the time the kids are of age in 10-15 years. There will be a movement of name assigned at birth like gender assigned at birth. Everyone will change it if they feel the need too and pick a new name.
