The actual truth about the ice cream machine is that it isn't broken it's just that either nobody wants to clean it or it has already been cleaned for the day. And it has to be cleaned every day! you also have a lot of waste in those things its usually several litres of ice cream you have to throw out.
So what happens is that in many shops especially those that don't get a lot of traffic they don't bother to turn it on because they know it's not economical so they say it's broken.
