Lura, I let my dog walk next to me, but he always chooses the sharp gravel over the grass with his sniffer engaged. He also doesn't seem to care when the road is hot either. It seems dogs may not have a concern about the road surface as much as it does to us.
Not every dog is the same of course. And dogs living in warmer countries are used to heat. Just give your dog the option to use grass if possible. They can choose for themselves.
Lura, Unlike humans, canines are walking on pads of keratin, the same stuff your nails are made of, not flesh - which explains the tolerance to heat. Doggo not used to waking will have more tender footpads.
