If a day in Venus is long than it's years, wouldn't it just make more sense to call the shorter time "day" and the longer time "year"?

No. A year is the time a planet needs to go round the sun and a day ist the time a planet needs to rotate 360 degrees no matter how long it takes. Venus rotates extremely slow possibly because a large object collided with it in the early time of our solar system

It has to do with rapid evaporation due to the temperature difference between the hot water and the freezing temperature. So faster freeze but less ice after
