Stalin starved more of his own people, along with all his political purges, than the Germans ever came close to killing in the war. Estimates are roughly 20+ million of his own people in the Ukraine alone, and any soldiers who surrendered or were captured by the Germans were considered traitors and would be shot upon their return, release or escape. You didn't want to be a Russian in WWII. The germans were the least of their worries.

In any given day, in any given year, there is huge variation in their size, and no one is calculating their volume and density at a global level...
