Poker is a game where you need to outrank your opponent's hand to win. Although there is some strategy involved, if you don't know your poker hands, you might as well give up before you even start.

To better understand which cards you need and when you need them, let's take a look at all the poker hands that have won.
You can see a picture of each of the poker hands below that are listed in order so that you can see the types of cards you can assemble to make a strong hand.
What Is a Royal Flush?
This is the best poker hand you can get and it outperforms all other hands. It's unlikely but still possible to get this hand!
An Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten of the same suit are required to obtain a Royal Flush.
What Is a Straight Flush?
A Straight Flush is one of the other top poker hands; although it's not very common, it can still help you win the bet when you do get it. Only a Royal Flush, which is challenging to obtain, can defeat this hand. That is one unlucky round if you have a Straight Flush but lose to a Royal Flush.
A hand with five cards in the same suit, dealt in order, is known as a straight flush.
Four of a Kind
There are many successful poker hands, and Four of a Kind is one of the best. This poker hand consists of four identical cards and one card of a different rank.
You can see a four-of-a-kind example in the picture we've included. We'll explain later who prevails if two players have Four of a Kind.

How Do Straights Work in Poker?
A Straight requires five cards of the same rank, dealt in sequential order in your hand, and it ranks below a Flush. But they don't have to wear the same outfit.
Three of a Kind
In the event that you hold a three of a kind, your hand will include three cards of the same rank and two cards of a different rank. This hand would require a Straight in order to be defeated.
Two-Pair Poker
Two Pairs follows as we progress through the poker hands in order. Two cards of one rank and two cards of another rank are required to have a winning hand. Additionally, your third card would have to be a different rank.
One-Pair Poker
Despite a One Pair appearing to be a weak hand, it is still one of the winning poker hands. To get One Pair, you would require a pair of identical cards. It would have to be a different rank for your other three cards. The ranking of this poker hand is still higher than High Card.
What in Poker Is a High Card?
As we near the bottom of our list of poker hands, High Card is among the worst combinations you can make. You will not have any pairs in your hand. A high card, such as an Ace, will be present.
Poker's Top Hands
The best hands may differ from game to game because there are many different poker variations. The best poker hand, though, is a Royal Flush, which is difficult to obtain as you might have guessed.
