The catalyst was a farcical belief in a fairy tale which persists to this day as a global mass delusion. We've decided to adhere to reality by taking away the reference to your religion, but to make it simpler for the masses, the date numbers are kept the same. Otherwise, we would have to change the dates of all records of events in the Western world.
But I don't expect simple people like you to understand such things.
