No. No, they're not. Each test is up to the interpretation of the person giving it, and even they will say that many times it's inconclusive. The results aren't given by the machines themselves, and they are extremely unreliable.

They might be 98% effective but not accurate. Most detectives will tell you they use lie detectors as tools to make people nervous and to observe their body language and reactions to the questions. They don't care about what the data actually is.
