Having worked tech support nothing in this surprised me, I once had a user bring in a bag full of the pieces of their former laptop saying that they needed the data off it immediately and wanting to make sure we would have a replacement ready before they left for the day. (They had run it over with their car, apparently they put their bag down and forgot about and and backed out...)

#3 is a reasonable job. what do you want? to run the cables thru the wall or flooring and tearing bigger holes to rewire this so you cant see it? lol
