#12 If you think the movie was surreal, check out the original comic strip by Winsor McKay, introduced in 1905.

That's easy to explain why, the monster was voiced by Tim Curry. I could listen to him read the phonebook...

#1 This was actually much closer to what the books are like than the happy-go-lucky musical was. Still a terrible movie, though.

#2 That's what Roald Dahl's books are like. Ever read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Matilda? There's some dark stuff in there...

Some of these were weird, but most of them were normal for when I grew up. The next generation will be wondering why all the movies were nothing but remakes and sequels. Heck, there's already so much CGI now that they may even be marveled at the idea of having real human faces in them.

Return to Oz

“It begins with Dorothy getting ELECTRIC SHOCK THERAPY because no one believes she visited Oz, and ends with a goblin wizard lifting his robes to reveal he’s been wearing a dainty pair of ladies’ glittery red heels. There’s so much madness in between I think I’ve blocked most of it out.”
