Dustin Hoffman slapped (unscripted) Meryl Streep in Kramer vs. Kramer.

In one scene, Hoffman struck Streep in the face, and she was not ready for it.

Streep told the New York Times, "...it was my first take in my first movie, and he just slapped me. And you see it in the movie. It was overstepping."

For years, this moment of improv has been looked at as "method acting" instead of assault.
