Tanafra, it’s bidirectional but from cloud to ground is the most common.

the most common is actually cloud to cloud, but yeah ground to cloud is the least common

I can imagine that ringing a large metal church bell WOULD attract lightning, especially because the clapper would be creating an energetic action for electrons to flow to.

Janice, yeah, we can probably deduce that in Australia the would be safe to fly, as they are on the opposite side of Earth and would need a positive charge to fly there. JC-LOL

Janice, it can however *create* a negative charge (although it has nothing to do with it's ability to fly):
