#8 I am not a big hugger or touched because of life trauma, but the HARDEST part of working at a preschool was being told to PUSH any children who want hugs AWAY! I could NOT push them aside... I got in trouble more than once for bending down and letting kids hug me until they felt better. I mean push 4-5year old AWAY???
"As a linguist I have friends who study lots of lesser-known languages. One works on a language called Otomi spoken in central Mexico. One day he had a native speaker teach him the word for brother. Turns out it’s a verb in that language. So, not “he’s my brother” but “he brothers me”. And the verb is reflexive – “we brother each other”. But then he noticed it was actually a homophone of the verb for “walk”. So to say “he’s my brother” in Otomi, you literally say “We walk together”."
