Muriel,

Historically each color was a different flavor, purple was grape , green was lime, yellow was lemon, orange was orange, and for a while blue was some kind of berry flavor. Color was from the fruit source, generally, but was boosted from sources like beets, Kale, etc.

#11 when I was a kid, we traveled through Canada and bought some cream soda, my favorite, but it was PINK. Somehow I still can't forget that pink, although I have never had it again.
