i dont know what "hotels" we are talking about, but i never had any issues - also the staff was always helpful and compliant!

Depends on the country. In South America they’re usually not when you go into cheap hotels, which is also where you’d want to use this technique

Many hotels have a safe in the room. You can keep your valuable items in it when you have to leave the room and don't want to take them with you. //satire ends here

#4 Please don't do this... use plastic, toilet paper or wad of soap to clog a drain. Use the DRAIN STOPPER that exists on almost every fixture, OR a piece of cloth that won't go down or get stuck.

All of these are basic or dumb ideas that won't work in a low budget motel, or are meaningless (towel under door is a safety hazard only illegal room smokers do).

#4 A flat round refrigerator magnet, found in most gift shops or souvenir shops, does the trick if the stopper is missing. I carry one in my luggage for just such an emergency.
