#39 Stacking rocks in a pyramid shape (or "pile" to use layman terms) is simply the easiest and most efficient way to make an impressive structure and have it not fall down. I'm not being patronizing, it's just basic geometry and why ancient civilizations all over the world have constructed them.
Also, dinosaurs existed all over the planet and when people discovered the fossils, they had no idea what they were. This explains why mythical creature legends (like dragons) exist in almost every ancient culture.
