#7 - choosing not to provide a particular book in a school library does not mean the book is banned. Quit fearmongering.

Banning Books is weak as fuck and says more about the fragility of conservative Egos and almost nothing about the Books.

Ps. It also speaks Volume about their Trust in the Next Generation.

Mervyn,

fearmongering is a presupposition that 'If X happens, then Y will happen' where Y is either a non-sequitur or unlikely to occur, but is scary.

The infographic presents quantitative data books banned (with the data sources indicated for you to confirm) and therefore does not meet the threshold for 'fearmongering'.

weak as f@#k is right. dirol

Mervyn,

'they are not banned, you just can't read them anymore'.
Denying education is even worse than 'just' banning books, but I guess it's the only way to secure a republican voter base in the current state of the party. Keep going, it's just the usual fascist playbook

Mervyn,"choosing"? Don't you mean "being forced by Christian conservatives trying to avoid reality and imposing their 14th century world view on everyone"? The Bluest eye was BANNED multiple times as was 'This book is Gay'. Stop trying to find nuance in levels of religious censorship and stop trying to suggest there is a middle ground we can all work towards: no banning, no restrictions, no compromise: censorship is censorship no matter what weak right wing religious slant you try to obscure reality with.

If any of you here in the rebuttals had even a tenuous grasp of context...your foaming-at-the-mouth Leftism would be far less rabid.

Mervyn, in Florida they banned some books because the gays were using them to try to groom the children. That’s sick.

Adela,

I live in Florida. I am not a leftist. Our governor is an authoritarian who is only concerned with scoring points with his base and running for president. And no, "the gays" aren't out to get your children. I can't believe I actually have to say that. There is no hope left for this world.

Some are, most are not.

That is something neither side in the US seems to understand.
It's not all and it's not no one.

#7 almost none of those books are "banned" as in forbidden but simply removed from schools because they are inappropriate for that age. We don't want little kids being handed sexual content because that's not only illegal in every other context and wrong for their age.

#13 LOL China listed that low?? Clearly they got their data from asking the Chinese government

Ivan,The bluest eye. Ultimately, it became the 34th-most banned book in the United States 1990–1999, the 15th-most banned book 2000–2009, and the 10th-most banned book 2010–2019.
Go recheck your facts.

Lots of stupid people here trying to make the case that banning and restriction are two different things when the reality is that BOTH are censorship by pearl clutching swooning conservatives appaled at the reality of gay people existing, slavery being a real historical event and not everyone believes a magic space elf made the universe. dirol

Of all these country based statistics, why isn't there one indicating the worlds highest to lowest IQ? Seems to me a very useful piece of data, unlike some of these innocuous statistics.

It's because Africa would convincingly have a population of the lowest IQ. But, you're not allowed to notice that universal fact.
