While I'm not excusing any of these horrible wastes of packaging I can explain the meal prep ones. Everything is individually packaged so that the correct amount can be boxed up regardless of recipe, if it calls for 4 you get 4 if it calls for 7 you get 7. Cheaper to have everything packaged one way ahead of time rather than multiple ways at shipping (not that the whole concept isn't a waste of money to begin with...)

most of this is so tiny. it would actually get lost in the mail or stolen. Have you been to the store? food is prepackaged cause people are gross. they'll sit on your food or poison it.

Some of the things here are just theft prevention, mascara box, allergy pill, saffron and the memory card are just that.

Food being packed in shrink-wrap extends its shelf life from few days to weeks. Be it bell peppers or cucumbers, if things stay fresh they will be bought and eaten, if they dry up or spoil, they will be thrown away and all the energy and time spent on growing the food as well as transport is wasted. Even a single thin slice of cheese not being thrown away more than outways the entire packaging being plastic.

Elizabeth,

So, plastic to justify over-production?
